Financial modelling
Nobody wants their financial future determined by assumptions or guesswork
Seeing the decision before you make it
Most significant financial decisions are made with incomplete information. Can I afford to retire at sixty? What happens if I reduce to three days a week? If we help the children into a house, what does that cost us later?
Modelling turns those questions into numbers you can look at. We map your current position, project it forward under reasonable assumptions, and then test the decision you are actually weighing up.
The value is rarely a single answer. It is seeing the shape of the outcome, understanding which assumptions matter most, and knowing how much room for error you are working with.
What modelling involves
- Mapping your current position — assets, liabilities, income and expenses
- Projecting income and expenditure across your timeframe
- Testing different retirement dates and income levels
- Modelling major decisions before you commit to them
- Stress testing against poor markets, lost income or unexpected costs
- Updating the model as real numbers replace estimates
Assumptions, stated plainly
A projection is only as good as what goes into it. We will tell you what the model assumes about returns, inflation, contributions and expenses, and show you how sensitive the outcome is to each.
Projections are illustrations, not predictions — actual results will differ. Used properly, a model is a decision-making tool rather than a forecast, and it is far more useful for narrowing down a choice than for telling you what the future holds.
