Estate planning strategies
Estate planning is about wealth succession — a way to help protect the wealth you have built over your lifetime
More than a will
A will directs the assets that form part of your estate. A surprising number do not. Superannuation, jointly held property and assets inside trusts or companies frequently pass outside a will entirely, which is where well-intentioned plans most often come unstuck.
Estate planning is the work of making sure what you own, how you own it and what your documents say are all pointing in the same direction. It also considers how wealth arrives — whether a beneficiary receives a lump sum at a difficult moment, or something structured more thoughtfully.
It is not a conversation most people look forward to. It is considerably easier to have once than to leave to the people who come after you.
What estate planning covers
- Reviewing how your assets are currently owned
- Understanding what passes under a will and what does not
- Superannuation death benefit nominations and whether they are current
- Testamentary trusts, and the circumstances where they help
- Coordinating with your solicitor on the documents themselves
- Reviewing after marriage, separation, a birth or a death
Working with your solicitor
We are not lawyers and we do not draft wills or powers of attorney. Our role is the strategy — how assets are held, how superannuation is directed, and how the structure supports what you want to happen.
With your permission we work directly with your solicitor so the documents reflect the strategy, rather than the two being developed separately and not quite matching.
